History of the Edmonton Oilfield Technical Society
The Society was started in Edmonton in 1951 as the Canadian Oilfield Technical Society. It was registered as a
Society on March 25, 1957 with the Registrar of Companies in Edmonton. On January 23, 1973 a special resolution
was passed changing the name to the Edmonton Oilfield Technical Society.
The objectives of the society are:
- The promotion of mutual co-operation in furthering the application of academic and practical engineering principles
to the exploration and development of petroleum and natural gas through regular meetings for the free discussion
of problems relating thereto.
- The development of social fellowship for all the people in the Oil industry.
The membership is made up of owners and employees of oil and gas producing companies,
drilling contractors, oilfield service and supply companies.
The Edmonton OTS is fortunate to own a 10 acre park which has an all weather pavilion and a picnic area is set aside
strictly for OTS members and guest while the rest of the park is available for rental.
During the week the park area is provided free of charge to charitable organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of Edmonton.
During the presidencies of Messrs. Rick Kautz and Henry Kilbach in 1988-1989 "The Fin Lineham Hall" a modern
pavilion was built. It can accommodate oilfield social functions of 600 participants.
In order that we could provide better catering services at our Park, in 2003 we have partnered with
PTI Premium Banquet Services and added a first class catering kitchen to the hall. This allows us to
to utilize the hall year round.
The hall compliments the museum and will house those historical exhibits reflecting the Canadian oil industry whose
size can be accommodated within an indoor environment.
Grateful appreciation is expressed to the many donors to the Building Fund and to current
and past members of the Edmonton Oilfield Technical Society executive whose enthusiasm, vision and determination
ensured this pavilion's construction.
